Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

On Friday night, Jeremy and I decided to go see a movie we've heard about, and for the first time saw a movie that's probably gotten more critics than raves. In my opinion this was a good thing.

The movie is actually a documentary. Ben Stein sets out to set a record straight- evolution is a theory- not a fact. And as a scientific theory, it is not the only one. There is another theory called Intelligent Design that suggests we are not necessarily the by-product of a single-cell reproducing over billions of years to become everything this world is, but that there is an intelligent designer that has created and aided the world in it's "evolution" over time. This doesn't get into the nitty-gritty stuff, i.e., man made in the image of God. But it does discuss very interesting and enlightening details on evolution and why we can't blind ourselves to that being the only possibility out there. Even more importantly why our schools should allow for scientific discussions of other possibilities and doing otherwise is really going against the constitutional right. Did you know that scientists, doctors, and other professionals have been fired and blacklisted in their professions for even suggesting that this Intelligent Design theory is a valid theory? The truth is that most atheists believe that Christians are uninformed, lay people who have a warped view of the world. But there are many scientists who have studied in depth these theories- both of them- and believe intelligent design to be legitimate. Many of them are not in the least bit religious. So is keeping this theory out of schools and government programs the beginning of an obstruction of our freedom? Should we be told this is the theory that is correct and we have to believe? Shouldn't we be able to decide which scientific theory we believe? Please check this movie out, whether you believe or not, it's a great way to inform yourself.

Scott was telling about this movie the other day...before that, I hadn't even heard of it... He was saying how it was rated in the Top 10 movies for the weekend it was released, despite the fact that it was only showing in a few places and competing against other movies that were showing across the country... I think we'd definitely like to check it out - but we may have to wait till it comes out on video...(it's a little harder to go out to the movies these days with Kassia...*smiles*)

So, no word about that military scholarship yet?
